NORTHEAST PARTNERS IN AMPHIBIAN AND REPTILE CONSERVATION (NEPARC)

    What: NEPARC Annual Meeting
Where: Highland Center Lodge at Crawford Notch, New Hampshire
    When: 24-26 July 2012

    CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Abstracts are invited for oral and poster presentations at the 13th annual meeting of the Northeast Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (NEPARC) to be held 24-26 July 2012 at the Highland Center Lodge in scenic Crawford Notch, New Hampshire (http://www.outdoors.org/lodging/whitemountains/highland).

NEPARC is an active, diverse, and inclusive partnership dedicated to the conservation of amphibians and reptiles and their habitats throughout northeastern North America. Annual meetings are an ideal forum to share current research and conservation initiatives, participate in working group sessions, and to network with like-minded herpetological enthusiasts in the Northeast. Please visit http://www.northeastparc.org to learn more about NEPARC’s mission and current conservation initiatives.

Oral presentations will be approximately 20 minutes in total length (including ~ 5 minutes for questions). A special poster session will be held to facilitate the sharing of ideas and interactions among attendees and presenters. Presentations by students (graduate and undergraduate) are encouraged.

Presentations are invited on all topics related to reptile and amphibian conservation, and are especially solicited for the following topics:

Life on the Edge: Reptiles and amphibians that are at serious risk of local or regional extirpation and/or species at the edge of their range.

On the Ground: Population (species manipulation, augmentation, translocation, headstarting, etc.) and habitat management or restoration efforts to benefit reptiles and amphibians.

Forging Partnerships: Partnering to implement reptile and amphibian conservation efforts, including those identified in state Wildlife Action Plans.

Due to the structure of the meeting (including working group sessions), there are limited speaker slots available and some oral presentations may be asked to consider a poster presentation.

Registration will be open in the coming months and will be available on the NEPARC website (http://www.northeastparc.org). All presentations will occur on July 25-26. Registration and an informal social will begin on the evening of July 24, 2012.

DEADLINE for submission of abstracts to be considered for oral presentations is: 10 February 2012. Poster abstracts should be submitted by June 15, 2012.

Abstracts must be submitted electronically by sending an email to neparc2012@yahoo.com

Please include ‘NEPARC Abstract’ in the subject line. Include the abstract as an attachment (Microsoft Word) and identify whether you prefer an oral or poster presentation. See Instructions for Preparing Abstracts (below) for formatting requirements.

    Symposium
CONSERVATION AND BIOLOGY OF TORTOISES AND FRESHWATER TURTLES

The 10th Annual Symposium on the Conservation and Biology of Tortoises and Freshwater Turtles will be held 16-19 August 2012 in Tucson, Arizona. The meeting is co-hosted by the Turtle Survival Alliance and the IUCN Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group (TFTSG).

The meeting, which has hosted an average of more than 200 attendees over the past six years, represents the largest gathering of non-marine turtle biologists in the world and provides an unmatched opportunity for networking and strategizing turtle conservation. Last year’s conference was filled with presentations by biologists and conservationists from 13 countries covering 50+ species.

WORLD CONGRESS OF HERPETOLOGY, VANCOUVER, CANADA
    Call for Symposia

The Scientific Program Committee invites proposals for symposia for the congress to be held 8-14 August 2012 in Vancouver, Canada.

Proposals must include a descriptive title, one or two paragraphs explaining the topic of the symposium and its importance, and a list of proposed speakers with their affiliations and the titles of their presentations. Proposals that can demonstrate that speakers have been invited and have agreed to participate, and that the funds required to get speakers to Vancouver are being solicited or have been obtained, will have higher likelihood of acceptance.

Proposed symposium topics should pay attention to the global nature of the meeting as a whole and preferably should not repeat those of recent World Congresses of Herpetology. The participation of young investigators and researchers from a variety of countries is encouraged.

Presentations may be 15 or 30 minutes in length. Symposia will ordinarily be restricted to half-day sessions but full-day symposia may be considered if sufficiently justified and if there is likely to be sufficient interest.

Application: Email proposals (in Word or PDF format) to:

    David M. Green
    Chair, WCH7 Scientific Program Committee
    Redpath Museum, McGill University
    Montreal, Quebec, Canada
    david.m.green@mcgill.ca

Please use the subject heading: [WCH7 Symposium Proposal] and topic of the symposium.

Deadline: Please submit proposals no later than 1 July 2011.

Receipt will be confirmed by email. Notifications of acceptance or rejection will be issued by 31 August 2011. Each symposium participant must personally register for the congress and submit an abstract of his or her presentation. Acceptance of a symposium proposal does not indicate that the 7th World Congress of Herpetology will provide funding of any kind.
