Taxonomic Comments:
  • Holman and Fritz (2001 Zoologische Abhandlungen Staatliches Museum für Tierkunde Dresden ((51(19): 321-343), because of convincing evidence of the paraphyly of this genus, proposed that C. muhlenbergii be placed in the genus Glyptemys Agassiz 1857.
  • Feldman and Parham (2002 Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution 22(3): 388-398) proposed that C. muhlenbergii be placed in the resurrected genus Calemys Agassiz 1857.
  • Collins & Taggart (2002 Standard Common and Current Scientific Names for North American Amphibians, Turtles, Reptiles, and Crocodilians. Fifth Edition) submitted for consideration the proposals by Holman & Fritz (2001 op. cit.) and Feldham & Parham (2002 op. cit.) to a chelonian systematist group composed of John W. Bickham, John B. Iverson, Jeffrey Lovich, Peter Meylan, Michael E. Seidel, and H. Bradley Shaffer, and they agreed with Holman & Fritz (2001 op. cit.).
