Earless Lizards
Holbrookia   Girard, 1851
Taxonomic Comments:
  • CNAH Note: The taxonomy of this genus in the United States is complex and confused, primarily because a large amount of unpublished data and unreviewed conclusions regarding it have found their way into some of the scientific literature. Given this situation, we sincerely hope that some herpetologist might, in the near future, subject this genus to an analysis of molecular data, thereby revealing the actual number of species (i.e., evolutionary lineages) contained within it. Currently, we recommend that none of the subspecies in the genus be recognized.
