Taxonomic Comments:
  • Feltham et al. (1997 SSAR-HL-ASIH Annual Meeting Abstracts, page 129) recommended that all subspecies except segregus not be recognized, and that segregus be recognized as a distinct species.
  • Adalsteinsson, Branch, Trape, Vitt & Hedges (2009. Molecular phylogeny, classification, and biogeography of snakes of the Family Leptotyphlopidae (Reptilia, Squamata). Zootaxa. 2240: pp. 1-50), in their revision of the Slender Blind Snakes, placed this species in the genus Rena Baird & Girard, 1853. Standard common name remains Western Blind Snake.
