Rio Grande Chirping Frog Eleutherodactylus cystignathoides  (Cope, 1877)

Taxonomic Comments:

Frost, Grant, Faivovich, Bain, Haas, Haddad, De Sá, Channing, Wilkinson, Donnellan, Raxworthy, Campbell, Blotto, Moler, Drewes, Nussbaum, Lynch, Green & Wheeler (2006. The Amphibian Tree of Life. Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History 297: 1-370) placed the species cystignathoides back in the genus Syrrhophus. Heinicke, Matthew P., William E. Duellman & S. Blair Hedges (2007. Major Caribbean and Central American frog faunas originated by ancient oceanic dispersal. Proceedings of the Academy of National Sciences. 104(24): pp. 9913-10294) returned this taxon to the genus Eleutherodactylus.
